Elephant in the Room is our quarterly discussion series designed to spotlight some of our community’s deepest and darkest problems in a dialogical and constructive fashion. We partner with people and organizations that are working on the ground against these problems, giving them a platform to educate and engage with the public with an eye towards a sustained civic response.
Whether they’re taboo or just poorly reported, some of the world’s most pressing problems are nearly invisible. We want to shine a light on that darkness, bringing those things which we haven’t been talking about into the conversation.
We’ve partnered with various people and organizations for Elephant in the Room. Most recently, we highlighted the power given us by forgiveness with an Alamo Drafthouse film screening featuring Michael Morton and his award winning documentary, An Unreal Dream. We also worked with Rev. Becca Stevens of Thistle Farms, St. David’s Episcopal Church, Allies Against Slavery, Dr. Tommy Darwin, the Texas Council on Family Violence, the Central Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking, and the University of Texas School of Social Work.
