Notes

Legendary political organizer, columnist, blogger, and now Seminarian, Lize Burr, will join us this Sunday, October 15th in the ECR Parish Hall to talk about those delicate places where faith and politics intersect. With so much chaos happening all around us these days, we’re so grateful to have Lize’s sage voice, along with delicious Strange Land Brew and tunes from one of Austin’s finest jazz trios, to help us sort through the insanity of our current political climate.

Princeton Grad, Lize Burr, is currently a student at the Seminary of the Southwest. Still, it bears mentioning that, before delving into this part of her spiritual quest, Burr was and still is a well-known Texas political consultant and organizer, particularly for her work with the Stand with Texas Women project and Texas Democratic Women. A true Austin dynamo, Burr has been writing about and effecting change in Texas politics for decades.
Influenced by the likes of the piano trios of Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Red Garland, Gene Harris, Ellis Marsalis, and Bill Evans, the Philip Marshall Trio pays respectful homage, while managing to forge its own distinctive voice. Band leader, Philip Marshall, and his rotating lineup of Austin jazz legends have grooved with us many times at the Porch over the years, and we’re elated to welcome one of our favorite acts back to pub church. We promise you’ll be swingin’ in seconds flat once the Trio takes the stage: a real treat for jazz lovers anywhere.

Since 2012, The Front Porch has hosted pub church, complete with live music, food & drink, open conversation and Communion. This fall, we’ll meet each Sunday at 5:30 PM in the Parish Hall at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, partnering with Strange Land Brewery and local food vendors to bring the pub to the church. We hope to see you there for the same program you’ve come to expect from us, complete with food, drink, conversation, live music, and communion.
