Notes

In a special pub church program, we’ll welcome artist Shanny Lott and duo The Flyin’ A’s to our stage at Scholz Garten to lead our dialogue concerning the beauty of mothers–both the archetype itself and our own moms. Join us in what is becoming an annual tradition for our congregation: the Front Porch Mother’s Day celebration.

Shanny Lott attended the University of Texas in the 60’s as a sculpture student under the legendary Charles Umlauf, but didn’t make it out with a degree the first time around. It was not until 1989 that Lott, once again at UT, gave that BFA another shot, this time from the painting studio rather than the sculpture garden.  Now, her paintings have been shipped all over the country; from Boulder City, Nevada to Littleton, Colorado, Malibu, California, and Destin, Florida. They hang in the homes of friends, family, and strangers.

The husband-and-wife duo of Hilary Claire and Stuart Adamson—better known as The Flyin’ A’s—have just released their third independent record, You Drive Me Crazy. A collection of heartfelt songs that borrows from Americana, folk, country and Texas music influences, the album features top Texas performers like Lloyd Maines, Glenn Fukunaga, Paul Pearcy, and Will Taylor, with Chris Gage of Albert and Gage at the helm producing. The resulting album is their best release yet, with both new Flyin’ A’s fans and longtime followers praising this release before it’s even hit stores or airwaves. This is their second appearance this season, and we’re looking forward to hearing their take on motherhood at this gig.

Pub Church starts at 5:30 PM in the backroom of Scholz Garten. The second half of the conversation is opened up to the congregation as a roving microphone gives voice to all who wish to comment, question, and share their perspective. At the end of the discussion, a radically-open Communion service is always offered.
