All Saints' Episcopal Church
The Front Porch has teamed up with All Saints’ Episcopal Church and the Live Music Capital Foundation to bring you Austin’s finest artists in a fourth season of Unplugged on The Front Porch. The mission for our series is two-fold. On one hand, we want to offer an intimate listening room for Austin’s most deliberate music appreciators to meet and engage with our city’s troubadours and virtuosos. On the other, we insist on providing our musicians with a living wage in the spirit of patronism. Our desire here is that everybody wins. Past artists for Unplugged include Israel Nash, Mother Falcon, Ray Benson, Eliza Gilkyson, Jimmy LaFave, Sara Hickman, Erin Ivey, Carrie Elkin and Danny Schmidt, and many more.
Unplugged on the Front Porch now happens quarterly, usually on the third Thursday of a month. The doors open at 6:30, although we invite everyone to hang out on the lawn, chat with the other patrons, and have a drink. At 7:00, the music starts. We usually wrap up the show between 8:30 and 9:00. Exact length depends on whether or not the artist desires an intermission.
We ask for a $20 donation, which helps us both cover the cost of our technical crew and pay our artist the living wage that we often boast about. Of course, by the same token, nobody is ever turned away from the door–people pay what they can, and we’re cool with that. We’re also always searching for long-term donors or local business sponsor who can help make Unplugged more frequent and sustainable. If you’d like to donate, kindly visit The Front Porch’s website here to learn more about getting involved and helping us sustain this truly special series.
Bottomless beer and wine are always free of charge.
Unplugged on the Front Porch is hosted in the Sanctuary at All Saints’ Episcopal Church. Originally built in 1899 and recognized by the Texas Historical Commission, All Saints’ Sanctuary is a strikingly beautiful structure that follows in a millennium-old church tradition of fantastic acoustic engineering. Our artists often find themselves astonished by the purity of sound they can get, and some eschew amplifiers completely, choosing to let the building do its natural duty. Our unique opportunity to utilize this space for music of all styles is one of our strongest and most unique assets, one that must be witnessed and appreciated in the flesh.
Unplugged is a joint production between the Front Porch and the Live Music Capital Foundation. All Saints’ Episcopal Church generously contributes the space. Additionally, Unplugged on the Front Porch wouldn’t work without the generous support of Robin and Stephen Edmonds, John Pointer, Cam Rogers, Stuart Blackwell, Philip DeFalco, Charlotte Frazier, Chris Johnson, Martin Kohout, Liz Williams, Jerry Laporte, Blake Naleid, Marvin Jones, and Mona Myers.
