Parable with Evan Smith

Date and Time

Sunday, July 20th
5:30 PM

Opal Divine’s Penn Field
3601 S Congress Ave
Austin, TX 78704

If you’re not familiar, Parable is our informal service at Opal Divine’s Penn Field. This non-traditional celebration includes communion, singing, and a live interview from a notable Austin thinker. Most importantly, though, it’s an opportunity for fellowship with a Front Porch touch.

As usual, Parable’s three regular contributors will move things along: Rev. Stephen Kinney (our CEO) will celebrate, NPR’s John Burnett will MC, and Dave Madden will curate the live music.

Evan Smith

For Parable this month, we’re thrilled to announce that Evan Smith will be our interviewee. Evan is a titan of state and national politics. From his nine years as editor of the Texas Monthly to his founding ofthe non-partisan non-profit Texas Tribune to his work with KLRU, PBS, the Austin Film Society, and the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, he is one of Austin’s and Texas’ most important and influential citizens. His reputation–4 Edward R. Murrow Awards and 16 National Magazine Awards are prominent among his awards–is one of dedication to the ideals of journalism, art, and freedom.
